I posted this when it first came out in the general True Blood topic but I'm bringing it over here because I've created a specific topic for Season 5 casting news. I decided to put the topic in the spoilers section since casting updates and spoilers tend to go hand-in-hand.

True Blood Scoop: Meet Eric's Vampire 'Sister'

British actress Lucy Griffiths is coming to America in a big way.

The 25-year-old stunner — best known for her role as the ill-fated Marian in the BBC drama Robin Hood — is joining True Blood‘s Season 5 cast as a series regular.

Griffiths will play Nora, Eric’s (Alexander Skarsgard) centuries-old vampire “sister” (they were both progenies of Godric) who is working as a double agent within the Vampire Authority. Described as intelligent, intimidating, cool under pressure and a very good liar, Nora loves Eric deeply, but has dedicated her life to a higher purpose.

The gig marks Griffiths’ first big break stateside after several near misses. Most recently, she was among the leads in The CW’s zombie thriller pilot Awakening, but the show was not ordered to series.

True Blood‘s fifth season starts production later this year ahead of a Summer 2012 premiere.

Another update and rumor that Law and Order SVU's Christopher Meloni is being courted for a role.

TVLine has learned exclusively that the former Law & Order: SVU front man is circling what my sources are calling a “major role” in the show’s upcoming fifth season.

But what role? An HBO rep declined to comment, but I hear Meloni — who’s currently shooting a top-secret role in The Man of Steel — is in talks to play (duh) an incredibly powerful vampire.

If a deal comes to pass, this would be a major casting coup for True Blood. It would also mark a high-profile return to the small screen for Meloni following his sudden departure from SVU last spring.

It's now official:

SVU Alum Chris Meloni Joins the Cast of True Blood

It's official: Christopher Meloni has joined the cast of True Blood for Season 5, TVGuide.com has confirmed.

Meloni is slated to portray "an ancient, powerful vampire who holds the fate of Bill [Stephen Moyer] and Eric [Alexander Skarsgard] in his hands," executive producer Alan Ball tellsTVLine.com, who first reported the news.

Christopher Meloni being pursued by True Blood

The HBO series had been courting the Law & Order: SVU star for a major role since at least November. Meloni, 50, starred as Detective Elliot Stabler on SVU for 12 seasons before making his exit last spring. Since then, he's been noticeably absent from the screen, though he'll be starring as a general in the feature Man of Steel, due out in 2013.

The fifth season of True Blood is expected to return in summer 2012.

When True Blood premieres June 10, we'll get a taste of Eric Northman's bloodsucking, Godric-made vampire sister, Nora (Lucy Griffiths). "She's an irreverent British lady who we think was turned during Elizabethan or Victorian times," Lucy reveals. "It's been years since she's seen Eric, and she is very excited. She looks up to him, but they've had a fiery love/hate relationship in the way that brothers and sisters do."

Nora is also part of the Vampire Authority ruling council, which will play a big part in the new season. In this exclusive photo from the premiere, Nora, Eric (Alexander Skarsgård) and Bill (Stephen Moyer) are on the attack. "It occurs just after I've met them, and it's a reaction to being taken by surprise by some threatening characters," teases the beautiful Brit, best known for playing Marian in the 2006-09 Robin Hoodseries.

Eight episodes into filming, there's no great Bon Temps romance for Nora, but Lucy has her eye on another new series regular: Italian actress Valentina Cervi, who plays ancient vampire seductress Salome: "They're very close."
