Inside True Blood

A spot to post updates from HBO's new behind-the-scenes production blog:

Here's the first one. Note the bolded part.

Series Creator Alan Ball Answers 3 Questions for True Blood's New Production Blog
by Gianna Sobol

It's early February, and episode 403 is shooting at an undisclosed location just outside of sunny (but surprisingly cold) Los Angeles. The halls of the production office are bustling. Everyone is talking about how insanely talented Fiona Shaw is. Rebecca Wisocky just came in for a fitting. Our script coordinator Daniel is rushing out new pages. Post-production is delivering their watermarked dailies to all the powers that be.

You might be wondering who I am. My name is Gianna and I work for the extraordinary Alan Ball. So I am in the middle of things, and I will start in the middle of things. Because there is no beginning or end to True Blood. Quite frankly, it's the show that never sleeps. So though our production blog might be starting just now, you're jumping on a train that's been moving for four seasons and has been picking up speed (and friends) along the way.

Now I don't want to give away too many details, but today’s call sheet includes the words hostage, bites, dinner and Eric. There is also a General Safety Memo When Working with Exotic Animals attached to the front. This is one dangerous place to be, and things are as big and crazy as ever. But it's a long road from now until the premiere of Season 4. There is a lot of work to be done and a lot of waiting to suffer through. But you needn't do that alone, I am here to provide your weekly dose. So keep checking back for news on production, plus a little backdoor peek at how things work around here. And just to whet your appetites, here's a quick Q&A with Alan:

Gianna: What are you most excited about this season?
Alan: I really love the Eric storyline.

Gianna: What's going to shock the fans?
Alan: What happens to Jason...throughout the whole season.

Gianna: Got any advice for fans that are chomping at the bit?
Alan: We're working as fast as we can! In the meantime, I recommend watching the Swedish film Let the Right One In and the Russian films Day Watch and Night Watch.

Oh, I like the idea of a production blog. It's a great way to keep our interest between seasons. And, yay to the Eric storyline! :twirl:

Driving Miss Stackhouse
by Gianna Sobol

According to our transportation department, we have three of Sookie's yellow Hondas. One, the hero, is used when she's actually driving, another is used on a process trailer, when the car is towed behind a truck for dialogue and driving shots, and the third is used for stunts.

I hope she will be driving that one up Hummingbird road in the middle of the night of New Year`s Eve and catch a shoeless and shirtless Eric in the headlights :whistling:

"I'm team Eric. Sorry, Bill." -- Michael McMillian

Inside True Blood interview with actor/True Blood comic writer Michael McMillian:

Gianna: Ah, yes, I remember the panda. So what's the book about? Did you and Marc come up with the idea together?

Michael: Our story is called "Tainted Love" and runs for six issues. Bottles of Tru Blood are contaminated with a mysterious ingredient that causes vampires to lose all moral center and go "feral," attacking humans without restraint. The whole fiasco is a terrorist plot by a new villainous group, called the "Vampire Liberation Front," who has grown tired of Vampires having to play by society's rules. These are fundamentalist Vampires who want to destroy the civil ties between humans and vampires, so they target the Tru Blood Corporation. Jessica drinks a bottle of bad 'Blood, and Sookie, Bill and the rest of the Bon Temps crew scramble to save her before she kills somebody. Marc came up with the idea of the tampered Tru Blood and we just ran with the idea.

Gianna: Can you tease us readers with one mind-blowing moment they can look forward to in your story?

Michael: I think just about every cliffhanger has its shock value. That's a characteristic of the show that Marc and I wanted to make sure closed out each issue. There's a sequence in Issue 2 involving Jessica and an alligator that's a favorite moment of mine. And Eric takes his relationship with Sookie to new heights in Issue 3.

Gianna: ...Okay, thank you so much for your time, Michael! Before you go, two final questions. Who's your favorite human on True Blood? Now I'm asking you as a fan, not as an actor on the show...

Michael: Humans are quickly disappearing on True Blood! They are an endangered species, lately. It's tough to pick. Obviously I am quite partial to Anna Camp's portrayal of Sarah Newlin. I thought she was just fantastic - perfect in every way. And then there's Carrie Preston, whose genius goes criminally unsung. I love Arlene. She's such a wonderful character. In many ways she's the most relatable human on the show. If I lived in her world, I would be scared and pissed too! My favorite human character to write is definitely Jason.

Gianna: And your favorite supe?

Michael: I'm team Eric. Sorry, Bill.

Favorite True Blood scene?

I had a couple of scenes with Alexander Skarsgard, where I got to say things like, "Listen, you whiny little bitch." It just makes me laugh that he's ten feet tall and could take me out with the flick of his finger, and I get to scream and yell and threaten him. I had a good time, giving him a piece of my mind.
